Country Pennant/Australian Open Gala Day
Sunday November 13 saw the finals of the NSW Country Pennant Championships. This premier tennis event was held at Bowral Tennis Club. With dignitaries of the like of Harry Beck-Tennis NSW President and others in tow, a host of country stars competed for four spots in a NSW country team to take on NSW City, to be held at the NSW Medibank Open in January.
The day was a feast for the senses with sensational tennis, a HOTSHOTS junior tournament, and plenty of festivities.
There were many highlights, The big three being a) Seeing our own Susie Purvis play fantastic tennis in the country titles. Susie took it right up to the opposition and played some amazing shots. b) The arrival at 11am of the Australian Open trophies. What a buzz. An amazing feeling to be holding a piece of world sporting history, and c) The HOTSHOTS feast of tennis that had our own local juniors playing in a fantastic green ball tournament, The ever-popular serve radar machine where juniors and seniors enjoyed timing the speed of their serves and many more fantastic events.
The day was a great spectacular for Bowral Tennis Club which cemented it's position as one of the leaders in Club Tennis in NSW. We thank Harry Beck and Jackson Hills from Tennis NSW for coming to our event, Andy Schymitzek for his running of the day and his Country Pennant concept, Local MP, Prue Goward for dropping in, and all the helpers who made the day so fantastic.
