World Record Charity Event
On Friday September 24, 2010 local coaches Michael Poulos and Tristan Whitehill embarked on the journey of a life time......
At exactly 6:50am on a beautiful clear morning the two players set out to break the world record for the longest continuous tennis match. The record stood at 36 hours, 36 minutes and 36 seconds. Could they make the distance?
The event was set up to raise money to combat the cruel disease of cancer which has affected so many.
Many words have been written and spoken about the tremendous effort of Michael and Tristan to play for 36 hours and 42 minutes and raising nearly $37,000, however the real highlight was the buzz and excitement that was pumping through the club like never before.
We will never forget the cocktail party, with the excitement, thanks in no small part to the appearance of Australian legends Ken Rosewall and Alan Jones, as well as Tennis NSW president Harry Beck. Their support through out the Saturday and beyond was sensational.
We will never forget the work of the ball boys and girls who were unwavering in their support and enthusiasm. Not one minute transpired without someone being on the court.
We will never forget the help, hard work and utter generosity of the tennis community, sponsors and the community at large.
We will never forget kids in pyjamas playing through all hours and parents showing up in the middle of the night to say G'day.
We will never forget this great time for Bowral Tennis Centre.
